Excerpts from our exclusive interview with Harman:

Could you please talk us through your background and your journey?

I hold a BSc (Hons) in Home Science from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, followed by a Master’s degree in Food and Nutrition from the same institution. My academic training provided me with a strong foundation in nutritional science as well as its practical applications in everyday life.

I began my professional journey as a dietitian nearly a decade ago, initially working in clinical settings. These early experiences allowed me to work closely with individuals across a wide spectrum of health conditions, giving me invaluable hands-on exposure.

Over time, this shaped my perspective and helped me realise that nutrition is not merely about prescribing meal plans, but about identifying and addressing the root causes of health concerns.

Today, I practise as a dietitian and lifestyle coach specialising in therapeutic nutrition. My work focuses on areas such as gut health, paediatric nutrition, hormonal imbalances, including PCOS and thyroid disorders, metabolic conditions like diabetes, liver health, and overall hormonal well-being.

I strongly advocate a holistic approach—one that integrates food, lifestyle, digestion, and mental well-being—to help individuals achieve sustainable and long-term health outcomes.

How did you discover your passion?

My passion for nutrition developed very organically. From a young age, I was deeply curious about food and its impact on the body. My parents played a significant role in shaping this interest.

They instilled disciplined eating habits, emphasised the importance of meal timings, encouraged home-cooked meals, and highlighted the value of aligning food with the body’s natural biological rhythms. These early influences laid the groundwork for my interest in health and nutrition.

As I pursued formal education in this field, I began to fully appreciate the transformative power of nutrition—not just as an academic subject, but as a meaningful tool to improve health and quality of life.

Working closely with people and witnessing the positive changes that targeted dietary and lifestyle interventions could bring further strengthened my conviction. What began as a personal interest gradually evolved into a purpose-driven profession.

Who do you believe has been the biggest source of motivation in your daily life?

My family has been my greatest source of motivation, particularly my parents. Their unwavering belief in me, along with their constant encouragement, has been instrumental throughout my journey.

My husband has also been an incredible pillar of support. His understanding, patience, and consistent encouragement have given me the confidence to pursue my professional aspirations wholeheartedly.

Beyond my family, my clients serve as a powerful source of daily inspiration. Witnessing their progress, seeing improvements in their health, and knowing that my guidance has positively impacted their lives brings immense fulfilment.

Being able to support individuals through medical conditions, lifestyle challenges, and long-term transformations is both humbling and deeply motivating.

What are some of the strategies that you believe have helped you grow as a person?

A commitment to continuous learning has been central to my growth. I actively stay updated with evolving research in nutrition and health, ensuring that my knowledge remains current and evidence-based. I also leverage social media as a platform for learning, connecting, and sharing insights.

Additionally, working with a diverse client base and managing varied health conditions has broadened my perspective, strengthened my problem-solving abilities, and contributed significantly to both my personal and professional development.

In your opinion, what are the keys to success?

I believe consistency is the cornerstone of success—showing up every day with dedication, even when progress appears slow. Equally important are honesty and credibility.

Maintaining transparency and ethical integrity fosters long-term trust and meaningful professional relationships.

Being goal-oriented, cultivating clarity of thought, and demonstrating persistence in the face of challenges collectively form the foundation for sustainable success.

What advice would you give to our readers?

Avoid comparing your journey with others. Each individual’s path is unique, and growth unfolds at its own pace. Focus on giving your absolute best to whatever you choose to pursue, and trust the process.

Equally important is staying grounded in your values. Never compromise on your ethics, credibility, or integrity. Remain consistent, nurture a positive mindset, believe in your capabilities, and most importantly, never give up.
